News Format Debuts From VOA in Canton

The Voice of America Cantonese Service launched an all-news format in southern China this week. The format features regional and local news reports.
World news reports alternate every quarter-hour during the 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. broadcast, which can be picked up locally via shortwave, AM and the Internet (www.voanews.com/Chinese).
According to VOA Director David Jackson, the Cantonese audience wants news about the world.
The reports open with headlines every 15 minutes with short news briefs of world, regional and local events. This is followed by correspondent reports on U.S. policy issues and China news. Included are short English lessons and features.
