Next Shoe Drops in MAD Patent Case

U.S. PTO appears to reject all claims in re-examination of both patents

It appears the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has rejected all the claims by Mission Abstract Data in its re-examination of two patents regarding studio digital storage and automation systems.

That’s according to two documents released by the Patent Office today and which Radio World is reviewing.

Mission Abstract Data has 30 days to respond. That would be Jan. 19.

Even then the case may not be really over, cautions a legal source.

Once the USPTO reviews the response, the government could either make a final “office action,” in which it finally rejects or allows some of the claims. Patent reexaminations can go on for quite a while, according to the source, who notes the appeals process can drag on.
