Broadcasters won’t take a financial hit later this year on campaign ads.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted 327 to 101 to strike language from a campaign-finance reform bill that would have required TV stations to sell lowest-unit-rate advertising time to federal candidates. Sen. Robert Torricelli, D-N.J., had added the LUR language to campaign reform legislation last summer. Reps. Gene Green, D-Texas and Richard Burr, R-N.C., sponsored the amendment to kill the Torricelli language. Some broadcasters were worried that the LUR portion could have been changed to include radio.
