Norkring Extends DAB+ in Belgium

Will begin broadcasts from transmitter sites in the provinces of Limburg, East and West Flanders and Antwerp

Norkring Belgium has announced a substantial expansion of its DAB+ coverage in Flanders.

The company has been a license holder for the distribution of digital radio and TV in Flanders and Brussels since 2009.

In May this year, seven commercial stations (TOPradio, VBRO Radio, Radio Maria, Radio FG, Radio Stad, FamilyRadio and ClubFM) and the BBC World Service radio began broadcasting on the DAB+ network in the greater Brussels region.

Norkring is further expanding its DAB+ transmitter network in preparation of full DAB+ coverage for Flanders by 2017.

“Before summer, we will initiate DAB+ broadcasts from transmitter sites in the provinces of Limburg (Genk), East and West Flanders (Egem) and Antwerp (Schoten),” said Kristien Boels, Norkring marketing and communications manager.

“This will result in the mobile and indoor reception of a seamless digital radio signal throughout Flanders.”

The DAB transmitter networks of public broadcasters Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie , Radio Télévision belge de la Communauté française de Belgique and Belgischer Rundfunk remain unchanged.
