In northeast Ohio, a longtime AM station has gone silent after owner Family Stations sold the property for its six-tower antenna array.
WCUE(AM) 1150 is licensed to Cuyahoga Falls. It broadcast from a 38-acre site just outside the boundaries of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, operating 5 kW daytime and 500 watts at night.
Family Stations filed a special temporary authority with the FCC on May 8, citing that the tower site was sold due to financial considerations.
The network is currently deciding on the next steps for the license, a spokesperson told Radio World.
Family Stations sold the property to Helen Scott Custom Builders for $850,000, according to Summit County records. Two weeks later, the property was transferred to Park Ridge Preserve, which is based in Barberton.
WCUE signed on in February 1950 according to Cleveland Classic Media as a daytime-only station licensed to Akron.
In 1963, the license was assigned to Cuyahoga Falls and from 1969 into the 70s, WCUE aired a Top 40 format, according to Wikipedia.
Owner Sackett Broadcasting donated WCUE to Family Radio of Oakland, Calif., in 1986.
It had functioned as a repeater for the Family Radio Network since 2002.
