NPR Music, Pandora Plan SXSW Presence

They will celebrate music discovery, eccentricity

NPR Music and Pandora’s Discovery Den return to Texas this March for the annual South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival in Austin.

This is the eighth year that the NPR Music team will offer the SXSW experience to those on 6th St. and those listening online and through member stations.

Public radio is hosting live performances for audiences at SXSW including NPR Music’s official SXSW showcase at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q restaurant and club. These performances will be available on-demand at NPR Music following the showcase. March 20, public radio stations around the country together host the Public Radio Rocks Day Stage showcase. Additional live broadcasts, panel events and performances are happening throughout the week. Here’s the roundup page.

The Austin 100 is a Web app designed by NPR’s Visuals team and loaded with NPR Music’s picks for 100 bands to discover at SXSW this year. The new version enables users to create a personalized sublist of songs and download individual tracks for free. The Austin 100 is available to stream on TV screens via Chromecast and can be saved to any mobile home screen for easy access.

Additionally, “All Songs Considered” hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton; “Microphone Check” hosts Frannie Kelley and Ali Shaheed Muhammad; Felix Contreras from Alt.Latino; writer/editor Stephen Thompson; writer/critic Ann Powers; and others from the NPR Music team will offer the news and insights at the NPR Music website and on social media.

Pandora has announced the lineup for its annual Discovery Den taking place during SXSW. Returning to The Gatsby in Austin’s Red River District, more than 35 artists are scheduled to perform over four days.

Each day will highlight musicians in genres spanning electronic, hip-hop/R&B, Americana and rock. Wednesday’s artists will be of the electronica/pop persuasion; Thursday will feature hip-hop and R&B musicians; Friday will be co-presented with The Americana Music Association and feature Americana music; and Saturday will focus on rock.

Fans will be able to experience the Discovery Den both in-person and online via a multiplatform live stream. The complete artist lineup is available online, as are custom mixtapes, daily programming information and access to the live audio stream.
