NPR Plans Its First Live Opera Broadcast

For the first time, NPR will carry a live opera broadcast. “Porgy and Bess” by George Gershwin will be honored on its 70th anniversary with a production by the Washington National Opera.
NPR’s broadcast will be on Saturday, Nov. 12, as part of the “World of Opera” series. NPR will also carry an audio webcast. Twenty-six European broadcasters will air the production in December as part of a “EuroRadio” broadcast from the European Broadcasting Union.
