NPR said it will be the only radio broadcaster of Sunday’s pre-inaugural event/concert at the Lincoln Memorial.
“We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at The Lincoln Memorial” is the opening celebration for the inaugural; it airs live on Sunday. The evening includes big-name performances and historical readings. Barack Obama is scheduled to participate. The show will be televised by HBO, and produced by The Stevens Company in association with Don Mischer Productions.
The event will be offered by NPR to public radio stations and be available as a stream on station Web sites that choose to carry it.
Lisa Simeone, host of NPR’s “World of Opera,” will anchor NPR’s simulcast, which will air from 2 to 5 p.m. Eastern.
Participants in the event include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, John Mellencamp, Jennifer Nettles, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, Stevie Wonder, Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington.
