NRG Buys Iowa Cluster From Woodward

Purchase price for four stations is $3.5+ million

NRG Media is paying more than $3.5 million for Woodward Communication’s four-station cluster in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Iowa metro.

The stations are: KOKZ(FM), KFMW(FM), KXEL(AM) and KWLO(AM).

Woodward owned the stations for a little more than two years. Prior to Woodward, Bahakel Broadcasting owned KXEL for 54 years from 1958 to 2012 and KOKZ, KFMW and KWLO from 1996–2012.

NRG Media CEO Mary Quass said the company continues to look for radio properties located in the Midwest that are integral to their communities. Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, NRG Media operates a total of 45 radio stations in Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois.

With the sale, Woodward continues to operate seven stations in the Appleton/Green Bay, Wisconsin markets which the company has owned since the late 1970s.
