NRJ Adds to Frequency Assets

New license awards have boosted the presence of NRJ International in Belgium and Norway.

New license awards have boosted the presence of NRJ International in Belgium and Norway.

As of January 2009, NRJ network brand Energy will have frequencies in the four major cities in Norway: Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger. The licenses run for seven years.

In Belgium, the media authorities awarded NRJ a nine-year license for an analog network of frequencies that will enable the station to cover most of Wallonia. Nostalgie, partly owned by NRJ Group, also received a community-level license for Belgium.

The licensing authorities in Belgium and Norway based the license awards on criteria including the professional and economic strength of the applicant for local and national radio, the range of verbal content on an average day and a clear local identity.

“After 10 years of operations in Norway and already 20 years in Belgium, the gain of the new licenses is a big success. We can put even more effort into our branding and programming, and we will develop listener’s loyalty with our targeted radio format,” said Mathieu Sibille, chief executive of NRJ Group International.
