The Bush Administration intends to nominate Michael Gallagher as head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration – the federal agency that oversees government spectrum allocations. Gallagher’s title would be assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information. He’d be replacing Nancy Victory in that role. Gallagher is deputy chief of staff for commerce secretary Donald Evans, who oversees NTIA.
FCC Chairman Michael Powell stated: “As NTIA Deputy, Mike made significant contributions to a number of important initiatives and proceedings where the FCC and NTIA were coordinating efforts and resources. He is a highly knowledgeable and dedicated public servant and will continue be a great asset to the Department of Commerce.”
