It may seem like radio stations play nothing but commercials sometimes, but earlier this week, it really happened.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Clear Channel’s WKSC(FM) had a little computer system glitch “that caused nothing but jingles, promos and commercials to air … during the wee hours of Monday morning.” The paper quotes regional VP/market manager John Gehron as saying it was “a little embarrassing.”
“We had a problem that didn’t get corrected as fast as it should have,” Gehron said. “We are staffed 24 hours a day. The stations are never left unstaffed. It’s just that somebody didn’t think to check for that problem. They will going forward. Hopefully, it won’t happen again.”
The time of day probably contributed; the mistake happened in the overnight hours and lasted, by various accounts, from 45 minutes to five hours, the paper reported.
