Orban/CRL says its Orban/Coding Technologies AAC/aacPlus player plug-in for Windows Media Player was downloaded more than 250,000 times since its release four months ago.
The software is free and lets computers with Windows Media Player use the low-bandwidth audio format.
The company says the plug-in is part of the consumer side of the Orban Optimized Audio transmission chain, which includes the Optimod-PC 1100V2 audio processor and the Opticodec-PC streaming and file encoders.
In addition to Windows Media Player, Orban Optimized Audio streams can be played by Winamp, Real Player, Quick Time (AAC only) and appropriately equipped 3GPP mobile devices. Files can be used to produce podcasts and can be played by iPods and other AAC/aacPlus-enabled mobile entertainment appliances.
