Oregon Station Adds AM Stereo

Oregon Station Adds AM Stereo

A station in Portland, Ore., has just gone … AM stereo?
According to a report by Kent Randles in the Water Cooled Newsletter of SBE Chapter 124,
KBPS has started broadcasting in AM stereo, joining two other stations in the market. The station is owned by a local school district.
The report quotes Chief Engineer Larry Holtz as saying, “KBPS-AM 1450 commenced broadcasting in AM Stereo on Nov. 28, thanks to the generous trades and donations (by) Ken Broeffle at Infinity and Gary Hilliard at Entercom.
“I realize that the format is pretty defunct, but the equipment was out there not being used and several of the students in the KBPS radio program expressed interest in converting to stereo. … KBPS is one of the few Portland AM stations still playing music.”
