Some 100,000 French speakers live in Qatar. To serve them, Qatar Media Corp. (QMC) and Radio France Internationale (RFI) introduced Oryx FM in mid January.
The program features news, sports and cultural programming along with French and world music. Oryx FM plans to extend its reach to other Gulf Cooperation Council nations.
“Our plan is to introduce innovations in the field of media and communication and we are still going to do a lot more for the QMC and we have the vision to broadcast throughout the Gulf region within the coming years and in the future, we hope to be the first French-speaking radio in the region,” QMC Executive President Sheikh Jabor bin Youssef al-Thani told The Gulf Times.
