FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai is touring CBS Radio-owned KDKA(AM) in Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
The Class A KDKA bills itself as the first commercially licensed station in the world. As such, personnel are presenting the history of the more than 92-year-old facility to the commissioner. The news/talk station is one of six remaining stations east of the Mississippi River that have call letters beginning with “K.”
Pai will also participate in a radio roundtable comprised of owners, programming and engineering executives from both large and small market stations in and around the Pittsburgh area, according to Michael Young, senior vice president and Pittsburgh market manager for CBS Radio.
Some 35 to 40 radio executives will take part in “an open exchange” about the future of the industry, Young tells Radio World.
KDKA broadcasts in analog, HD Radio and streams its signal online. The 50 kW station operates on 1020 kHz. Vic Pasquarelli is chief engineer of the facility.
