Peconic Fined $10,000

Admits to missing public file documents in renewal application

Peconic Public Broadcasting may have to pay $10,000 to clear the way for license renewal of WPPB(FM), Southampton, N.Y.

In preparing its license renewal paperwork, the licensee brought to the commission’s attention that while the station had kept a program log, some 13 quarterly issues/program lists were missing from WPPB’s public file. The lists were always available for public inspection and have now been placed in the right place, station management tells the FCC.

However the commission has decided that Peconic is apparently liable for a $10,000 fine, calling the violations “extensive” in the agency’s decision.

Peconic has 30 days to appeal or pay the penalty. The commission intends to grant the license renewal separately once the forfeiture proceeding is completed and if no other problems are uncovered that would preclude granting the application.
