Randy Gravely will succeed Bob Houghton as president of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
Houghton has held the role for 12 years. “Under Houghton’s leadership, the GAB navigated significant challenges, including election cycles, natural disasters and the global pandemic,” the organization said in its announcement.
“He reinstated the association’s annual convention, GABCON, and founded the GAB Education Foundation, which funds education and training programs for young broadcasters. Houghton has been a key advocate for legislative policies benefiting broadcasters, making a lasting impact on the industry.”
GAB said Houghton “helped lead the charge in advocating for legislation that helped lower unfairly high regulatory fees for stations” and that he was “a key part of the first informers bill that was passed to ensure that broadcasters have the access they need during emergencies.” He has been active in efforts to resist performance royalties and to keep AM radio in cars.
While serving as GAB president, Houghton also served on the board of the National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations and as NASBA president in 2022–2023.
Randy Gravley is former president and CEO of Tri-State Communications and active in several organizations. He is a past chair of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and past chairman of the NAB Radio Board. He is co-president and head fundraiser of the NAB Political Action Committee.
“GAB Chairman Bill Maine expressed confidence in Gravley’s ability to lead the GAB through the evolving media landscape,” the organization wrote.
