The Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX is an Android Auto- and CarPlay-compatible in-dash multimedia receiver.
Pioneer Electronics second generation Networked Entertainment Experience in-dash multimedia receivers are now available at retailers.
The 2015 line includes three models (AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX and AVH-4100NEX) that the manufacturer says are the first aftermarket tuners to include both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity and control, we reported from CES.
All three units include HD Radio. In fact, Radio World found during a demo that HD Radio is on the first screen that’s displayed and AM/FM can be as well.
Additional built-in features on compatible NEX models include Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Pioneer’s AppRadio Mode and enhanced audio/video capabilities including Pandora. All are SiriusXM-ready with an additional tuner.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay use an intuitive interface and voice actions for minimized driver distraction, Pioneer explains.
Two additional models, the AVIC-6100NEX and AVIC-5100NEX, offer only Apple CarPlay-compatibility.
List prices range from $1,400 for the AVIC-8100NEX to $700 for the AVH-4100NEX.
