Powered Subwoofer Standard Available for Implementation

The Consumer Electronic Association says its Audio Systems Committee adopted CEA-2010, “Standard Method of Measurement for Powered Subwoofers.” The standard provides test procedures for determining maximum Sound Pressure Level output and defines a ground plane test procedure and room correction factor.
The standard also outlines reporting requirements for compliance with the standard.
Broad implementation “will provide consumers who are interested in quality subwoofers the ability to make an informed purchasing decision,” said Charlie Hughes, president of Excelsior Audio Design and Services, and chair of CEA’s R3 Working Group, which drafted the standard. He said this also creates a level playing field for manufacturers of powered subwoofers.
