The FCC admonished American Family Association, licensee of noncoms WAEF(FM), Cordele, Ga., and WBJY(FM), Americus, Ga. for airing ads. A listener complained in 2003 that the stations were airing spots. American Family admits the announcements, which no longer run, violated internal underwriting announcement guidelines. At issue was an announcement that encouraged listeners to attend a concert and another that offered listeners a “free sample” from a sporting goods store.
Underwriting announcements may not contain comparative or qualitative descriptions, price information, calls to action, or inducements to buy, sell, rent or lease.
Given the past unblemished enforcement record for the station, the commission decided not to levy a fine.
