The NAB is asking radio and TV stations to help prevent underage drinking as prom season approaches.
It said 80 percent of high-school seniors have tried alcohol; “even though it is illegal for teens to drink, most say it is easy to get alcohol; the younger teens are when they begin to drink, the greater the risk for addiction; and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people from 15 to 20 years old.”
NAB has a “Celebration Prom /Graduation 2004” guide that includes ideas for broadcasters in this area. It includes PSA scripts and has been mailed to members.
