Quello to Be Honored at NAB (on His 90th Birthday)

The Broadcasters’ Foundation will salute “the Boss,” former FCC Commissioner James Quello, with its Chairman’s Award this spring.
The organization, which helps broadcasters in need, also announced the recipients of its 2004 Broadcast Pioneer Awards. They will be presented at a breakfast event on April 21 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. That date is also Quello’s 90th birthday.
The 2004 Broadcast Pioneers are Bill Burton, president of the Detroit Radio Advertising Group; the Carter family of Kansas City, Mo.; James E. Duffy, retired president of the ABC Television network; Pierson G. Mapes, retired president of the NBC Television Network; Jeffrey Smulyan, president and chief executive officer of Emmis Communications; and William F. Turner, retired head of Forward Communications.
There is no charge to attend the breakfast.
