To mark its 30th anniversary and to help boost the Kiwi music scene, Radio Active 89FM in Wellington, New Zealand, is giving away NZ$20,000 worth of airtime and promotions support.

The “$20K: FCKN@!” contest is giving emerging musicians, DJs and promoters that are performing in Wellington or releasing an album during August 2007 the chance to promote themselves on the station. The deadline for the competition was 16 July.

“The spirit of this initiative is to give a boost to the people just starting out. We don’t want to let great ideas die just because someone can’t afford to advertise,” stated General Manager Dave Gibbons.

“We’re celebrating 30 years of jammin’ at Radio Active 89FM in 2007, and we know how hard it is for entertainers to take that first crucial step in releasing their album or putting on a show,” Gibbons stated.
