The idea behind Radio Book Channel is to make programming use of audio books. Some of the readings are public domain works and some are by the authors themselves.
The actual audio stream is more than endless droning, offering segues and musical interludes that make it sound more like a public radio station. In fact, an NPR news feed is used at the top of the hour.
Genres of books read include drama, humor, mysteries, ghost stories and science fiction.
Radio Book Channel has a companion Internet streaming station — Radio Theater Channel. A release handily describes it, “to reliving those days when AM was king and television was still a dream for most Americans.” As can be imagined it replays classic radio shows.
