Radio News Seen as Less Credible

Radio News Seen as Less Credible

Radio is the source for most news for most people, according to a survey of American Radio News Audience by the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation. But more people would rather check television news than radio, according to the survey’s results.
“When compared to news from four other media on several journalistic characteristics, accuracy, credibility, relevance and bias, radio news was generally rated lower than both national and local TV news,” said Maura Clancey, Statistical Research, Inc. vice president. The RTNDA commissioned the survey and SRI designed and conducted the survey of 1,229 respondents via telephone.
Clancey said the survey points to radio’s power as a local medium.
Additionally, local news figures more prominently than national news in the selection of a radio station, according to the survey. Weather and traffic reports are considered an essential parts of a radio newscast.
