Radio One, the radio arm of what is now called Urban One, has closed on its purchase of an FM translator in Maryland that it is moving 140 miles to serve Richmond, Va.
It paid $40,000 for the translator W227DJ, which had been licensed for 1 watt operation in Paramount, Md., near the Pennsylvania border to broadcast on 93.3 MHz.
Radio One has a construction permit to move the translator 140 miles to Richmond, increase power to 250 watts and change frequency to 99.5, where it will rebroadcast WXGI, a Richmond AM station that Radio One is acquiring from Red Zebra.
The seller of the translator is Manning Broadcasting Inc. which in turn had acquired it not long ago from American University.
The deal was announced by seller’s broker Jason James at Patrick Communications.
