New York Festivals International Radio Program & Promos Awards announced finalists for “The World’s Best Radio Programs.”
With submissions from radio stations, networks and independent producers in 36 countries, the awards will honor the most innovative work in radio broadcasting, according to a release. A jury scored each entry via the NYF online judging website, assessing its production values, organization, presentation of information, creativity and use of the medium.
This year, 233 entries made it to the finalist pool, which will go on to the medal round of judging now. An awards ceremony will be held on June 17, at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.
Of the top contenders, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. had 19 entries moving on to the medal round, RTE Ireland had 14 and TBI Media United Kingdom with had eight. Top in the United States, ESPN USA had six finalist entries.
NYF Radio Awards Grand Jury member Stefan Frech, host at German public broadcaster NDR2 said in a released statement, “What is fascinating is that more and more radiomaniacs concentrate on very difficult and serious topics. They represent not only outstanding radio crafts but also braveness and great journalism.”
Nominees in new categories this year included: “Bob Edwards Talks with Children’s Book Author Jack Gantos,” Sirius XM Radio, U.S.A. (Best Interview); “The Thistle & Shamrock,” Fiona Ritchie Productions, Scotland (Best Interview) and Ciarán Hinds for “The Dreaming of Roger Casement by Patrick Mason,” RTE Radio 1, Ireland (Best Performance by an Actor).
