Radio Revenue Off in September, Flat for Year; Non-Spot Is Stronger

U.S. commercial radio revenue was off in September, ending a third quarter that came in flat compared to last year at this time and extending a flat year.
The RAB says in the month of September, national dollars fell 1%, local fell 3% and non-spot rose 11% compared to a year ago. In the third quarter, national radio advertising was up 5%, local was down 2% and non-spot was up 11%.
For this year to date, overall radio revenue is flat compared to 2005. National sales are up 2%, while local ad dollars are down by that amount. Non-spot revenue is up 9% for the year.
