Monday saw the opening of the fifth Georgia Association of Broadcasters Radio Talent Institute, hosted by the University of Georgia. The institute runs until Wednesday, May 16.
Beasley Media Group Vice President of Corporate Communications Heidi Raphael was the opening speaker for the event. The other broadcasters participating are employed by Cox Media, Urban One, Entercom, Cumulus, iHeartMedia, Salem Media Group and others, in addition to the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons.
Attendees are students and seven other schools in the state and region.
Over the course of 10 days, each student will become certified as a radio marketing professional by the RAB. Graduates have gone on to work for the Beasley Media Group, Cox Media, Entercom, iHeartMedia, Alpha Media, Cumulus and others.
The GAB Radio Talent Institute is the first of eight Radio Talent Institutes this summer from the National Radio Talent System, followed by the inaugural Beasley Radio Talent Institute at Emerson College in Boston; Kellar Radio Talent Institute, Appalachian State University in N.C.; TAB Radio Talent Institute at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Confer Radio Talent Institute at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania; Hubbard Radio Talent Institute at Central Washington University; KBA WKU Radio Talent Institute at Western Kentucky University and the MBA Radio Talent Institute at Northwest Missouri State University.
“Over the past five years we have graduated over 100 students who are ready to make a contribution to the future of our industry. I appreciate the nearly 40 broadcasters each year who give their time and talent to speak in the Institute. Broadcasting, and specifically radio, has a proud past and, with this program, a bright future,” GAB President Bob Houghton said in the announcement.
