On another topic: The Radiosophy folks are relieved that they’ve begun shipping receivers to those who pre-ordered them.
This is the first radio for the South Dakota-based company, which originally had expected to ship product to retailers in June … of 2005. Manufacturing delays caused the slowdown of more than 1-1/2 years.
The company is calling the MultiStream HD unit the first transportable tabletop receiver because the device can be removed from its speaker-base dock and taken from room to room, or to a car or boat using an adapter kit. It also has a USB port to allow software updates via the Internet.
In 2005, Radiosophy and Boston Acoustics both announced they were planning to release the first tabletops that June. BA shipped in 2006.
The Radiosophy unit lists for $269. Two years ago, Radiosophy’s receiver would have enjoyed the lowest price point; Now Radiosophy enters a more crowded field of HD-R tabletops.
The Recepter HD was introduced at $499 and is now $249 and the Accurian from RadioShack retails at around $200.
