The Society of Broadcast Engineers inducted new officers and honored its founder and first member John Battison during the national membership meeting Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio.
The society has renamed the SBE Lifetime Achievement Award the SBE John H. Battison Award for Lifetime Achievement, as RW reported earlier.
Battison said he’s happy that SBE is doing so well. “Thank you very much. I’m deeply honored. I’m very proud.”
Outgoing President Vinny Lopez recognized members of the 2010–2011 board. “It really doesn’t feel like it’s been two years since I stood here [at the podium] in Verona, N.Y.” Lopez said he learned there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to run the organization and hoped the society has come through with a balance of programs for its 5,200 members.
SBE General Counsel Chris Imlay swore in President Ralph Hogan.
“We have a wonderful opportunity to fulfill the needs and expectations of our many members,” Hogan said as he named the incoming committee chairs. “I look forward to working with you as we aim to move the organization forward.”
Hogan said it’s been five years since SBE had a strategic planning meeting; he plans to hold such a meeting next summer in Indianapolis.
Next year’s SBE national meeting will be in Denver, Hogan announced.
