Rdio Offers Free Tier

Music service debuts no-cost option

Rdio, a digital music service created by the people behind Skype, has expanded the “free” version of its service.

The free version is data-limited while pay plans start at $4.99 per month. A meter will keep free users informed on how much music they have available per month. Formerly, the free window was seven days.

Rdio promises that no ads will be heard in its streams.

The service is available online and via Android, BlackBerry and iPhone smartphones. It claims a library of 12 million songs. It also has a relationship with Facebook and Twitter.

The company plays in the same business space as Spotify and Rhapsody.
