The company’s roots date to the end of World War II, when Gen. Dwight Eisenhower assigned an officer to develop an American magnetic tape factory. Major John Herbert Orr did so, using a German formula. His company later became part of Ampex, according to a company history.
In 1995, Ampex Recording Media was sold off and became Quantegy.
