Rhode Island Public Radio Names President

Torey Malatia will also lead station as GM/CEO

Rhode Island Public Radio has selected Torey Malatia to serve as president, CEO and general manager of the station. Malatia will join RIPR on Sept. 14.

He most recently worked as CEO of WBEZ/Chicago Public Media and has about 20 years in public radio. Malatia’s CV includes the co-founding of “This American Life” and the development of “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me.”

The search was chaired by former board member, Marie Langlois and Adam Hamblett, current board member.

“Torey is a leader in pioneering new digital experiences for the public radio audience,” said Langlois. “He has worked in the public radio system at the highest level, managing a station that was strongly supported by the community.”

Additionally, Rhode Island Public Radio invites the public to attend the organization’s annual gala Sept. 21. Malatia will meet with listeners at the gala, and the event will feature “On Point’s” Tom Ashbrook interviewing NPR White House Correspondent Tamara Keith.
