R.I. Continues B.U. Probe Over WRNI

The Rhode Island attorney general will continue his probe into Boston University’s management of WBUR group station WRNI(AM), though the university has called off the sale of WRNI, reports the Boston Globe.
We reported earlier that BU called off the sale of the non-commercial Rhode Island station after donors protested and the state legislature passed a measure that would have imposed a fee on any commercial buyer.
Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch said in a statement that BU’s motivation to sell the station was “shrouded in secrecy,” reported the Globe.
A WBUR spokeswoman told the newspaper the sale was cancelled, not because of the legislation, but based on the possibility of increasing the Rhode Island listenership.
