Robert McDowell to Leave FCC

The Republican is longest-serving current commissioner

FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell says he’s leaving the commission.

At the FCC’s public meeting today, the Republican and former telecom executive said it was time to focus more on his family.

McDowell did not name a departure date, only saying he intends to step down in a few weeks.

The move had been expected.

He joined the FCC in 2006, filling the remaining term of former Chairman Michael Powell, and was reappointed and confirmed by the Senate for a new five-year term.
