Rooftop Ceremony for Lyons in New York

Rooftop Ceremony for Lyons in New York

Radio World presented John Lyons of The Durst Organization with the 2006 Radio World Excellence in Engineering Award Thursday in a ceremony atop a New York high-rise. Several dozen members of the New York broadcast engineering community, Durst Co-President Jonathan Durst, Durst employees and industry suppliers, as well as Lyons’ wife Natasha were present.
RW U.S. Editor in Chief Paul McLane cited Lyons for his “exceptional work in developing and managing the master broadcast antenna facility atop 4 Times Square at a time when the city has been most in need of such capabilities.” He noted Lyons’ role in establishing a new communications system for first responders in the Durst building portfolio, his actions in returning N.Y. stations to the air after 9/11 and his contributions to organizations including the SBE and the NAB Broadcast Engineering Conferences.
Last year’s recipient was Mike Starling of NPR.
