RTDNA/F Executive Director Assumes Duties

Mike Cavender will provide transition assistance through Dec. 1

Radio Television Digital News Association has announced that former Chairman of the Board Dan Shelley has assumed his duties as executive director of the association and its foundation. He had served as incoming executive director since April, and outgoing Executive Director Mike Cavender will provide transition assistance through Dec. 1.

As part of the leadership transition, Shelley led the association’s Voice of the First Amendment Task Force, working to educate the public about the important role of journalism in society and defending journalists and news organizations against attacks, both verbal and physical, while performing their constitutionally protected duty to uncover and report the truth, the association said.

He has been a member of the RTDNA/F board of directors for nearly two decades, serving terms as the association’s chairman in 2005–6 and foundation chairman the following year, as well as chairing the programs, awards and convention planning committees.

Shelley began his career at KTTS(AM/FM) in Springfield, Mo., and has gone on to become a Edward. R. Murrow Award-winning radio, television and digital media executive, serving in news leadership positions with iHeartMedia, Radio One, CBS Television Stations and Journal Broadcast Group.

“RTDNA’s role as a defender of press freedom, a source of thought leadership in ethical reporting and a champion of journalistic excellence is more important than ever,” Shelley said. “I look forward to building upon the work we have done on behalf of electronic journalists for more than 70 years.”

RTDNA is a professional organization devoted to electronic journalism, and RTDNF is a 501(c)(3) educational foundation.
