The RTNDA is urging the Pentagon to allow local as well as network reporters the opportunity to cover any U.S. military action in the Middle East.
RTNDA President Barbara Cochran, in a letter to the assistant secretary of public affairs for the Department of Defense, Victoria Clarke, said RTNDA members are encouraged by Clarke’s recent statements that cooperation with the press is necessary and in the best interest of the country.
“While network journalists play a critical national role, local reporters also have an important role, particularly those at stations with military units based in their communities,” wrote Cochran. “… (W)e have a responsibility to keep the public informed about key government activities including military operations.”
