The Radio-Television News Directors Association has asked Chief Justice John Roberts to allow radio and TV coverage of Supreme Court proceedings.
President Barbara Cochran said in her letter that audio coverage is not sufficient: “RTNDA hopes that you will make the public release of audiotapes of Supreme Court oral arguments your standard practice … In the present day, however, meaningful access necessarily means televised proceedings.”
Roberts has said he was open to the idea of televising proceedings. The news directors’ group favors legislation introduced by Sen. Arlen Specter to allow TV and radio coverage of the court.
