Salem Turns Off a Signal in Seattle

Salem Communications said this week it is turning off KIKN(AM) at 1290 kHz in Port Angeles, Wash., which had simulcast news/talk KKOL at 1300 in nearby Seattle.
The move is in preparation of a planned increase in power for KKOL to 50,000 watts. “Salem is taking this action as part of requirements regulated by the FCC,” it stated, and quoted Seattle cluster GM Joe Gonzalez saying, “We hope to receive final FCC approval within the next 30 days and all of our News Talk listeners will benefit from the improvement. In the meantime, we appreciate the patience of our Port Angeles listeners and invite them to listen online at www.1300kol.com.”
The move will leave Salem with five AM signals in the cluster.
