Samsung Telecommunications America has debuted Milk Music, a free streaming radio service.
Milk has no ads and is on Galaxy devices — for now, says the manufacturer.
The launch means Samsung is entering a crowded streaming audio field, taking on recent entrant Apple iTunes Radio, as well as Pandora, Spotify and others.
Milk is available in the Google Play store.
Powered by Slacker, which combines algorithms with curation to populate the some 200 genre-based stations, Samsung says Milk is meant to begin playing immediately with no log-in required; users can also create their own stations.
The company believes the dial interface is intuitive, fun and a “natural” way of listening to music. “We’re offering consumers amazing, rich music experiences built around what matters most to them and their lifestyle,” says Gregory Lee, president and chief executive officer of Samsung Telecommunications America and Samsung Electronics North America Headquarters.
