SDS Signs Backyard

Deal connects far-flung stations

Broadcast management software company Specialty Data Systems announced a deal with client Backyard Broadcasting, headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla.

Backyard is adopting SDS’ Symphony, which handles sales, traffic, programming, operations and accounting data. All of its stations will use the system and be interconnected.

SDS President Dave Cole and Backyard Vice President and CFO of Robin Smith made the announcement.

Backyard Broadcasting operates 28 stations in four states, New York, Pennsylvania, Mississippi and South Dakota. Many of the stations had been acquired in separate clusters and the physical distances between them had created “silos,” according to SDS.

Smith said in the announcement that the SDS system eliminates those information silos. “All our stations are in a common database, which enables simple and efficient enterprise reporting, rapid process improvement and streamlined administration across the entire company.”
