SelectRadio Software Turns Smartphones Into 'Universal Radio Receivers'

Users of several smartphone models can get live content from Internet radio channels using a new version of SelectRadio software.
The supplier says its software uses the phones’ network connection options to provide access. The software includes pre-set channels from XM Radio Online, Shoutcast and radioio. The latter this week announced it is approaching 1 million regular listeners.
Users can cluster channels to make a personalized channel group for easier access, says the software maker. The software also allows users to skip specified artists.
SelectRadio software is priced at $25 for a device-specific license. XM Satellite Radio Online requires a separate subscription. For live listening, SelectRadio software requires a network connection via the handheld wireless GPRS/EDGE, EVDO or WiFi connection or through the USB ActiveSync connection to the desktop.
The smartphones involved include the UTStarcom PPC6700, Palm Treo 700w, HP iPAQ hw6500 and Samsung i730.
