Senators Want Disclosure on Ownership

Sen. Hollings and several fellow senators, a total of five Republicans and 10 Democrats, are not happy with Chairman Powell’s stated June 2 plan to release new media ownership rules. Powell and Media Bureau Chief Ken Ferree were sticking to that date at the NAB last week.
The senators, including 12 members of the Commerce Committee, have written to Powell, noting their “disappointment.”
“We believe it is virtually impossible to serve the public interest in this extremely important and highly complex proceeding without letting the public know about and comment on the changes you intend to make to these critical rules,” stated the lawmakers, who urged the FCC to “provide full disclosure of any proposed changes before the are made final.”
