Glenn Close is among those to be honored when the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation present its Celebration of Service to America Awards on June 11 in Washington.
The event will be hosted by Deborah Norville.
A release making the announcement explains: “The dinner and awards presentation will recognize the exceptional public service contributions of radio and television broadcasters and will include the presentation of NABEF’s highest honor, the Service to America Leadership Award, recognizing individuals and organizations that have improved the lives of others through extraordinary public service.”
Top of the bill in celebrity will be the awarding of the Service to America Leadership Award to Close for her work in publicizing mental illness.
Winner of the Service to Community Radio Award is WLBS(FM) of New York, N.Y. WBHJ(FM) is the winner of the Service to Children Radio Award.
On the TV side, KRGV in Weslaco, Texas won the Service to America Television Award. Belo Corp. is picking up the Service to Community Television Award and Griffin Communication in Oklahoma City, Okla. is the winner of the Service to Children Television Award.
At the corporate level Univision’s “Es El Momento” educational initiative was selected for the NABEF President’s Special Award and State Farm is being presented the Corporate Leadership Award.
