Global Security Systems, the company behind the Alert FM emergency information distribution system, has announced a partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey to develop compatibility between the GSS Alert FM system and the USGS ShakeAlert earthquake warning system.
The concept is to stream ShakeAlert information via RDS to FM Alert receivers in an affected area. California is highlighted as the target market for an initial test.
ShakeAlert uses a series of seismic sensors that can transmit warnings to a larger information system. FM Alert would be an enhancer. FM Alert uses RDS to spread select information to special receivers.
