Broadcast reporter Ross Simpson is among the nine members of the Associated Press staff named as winners of its Oliver S. Gramling Awards for excellence.
Simpson was the first AP staffer to report from a military unit inside Iraq in the recent war.
AP President and CEO Tom Curley made the announcement. The awards are given to staff members whose work and initiative contribute significantly to the news report and to overall AP operations. A committee of bureau and department managers selected the winners, who were nominated by their colleagues.
Gramling developed AP’s first wire for radio stations in 1941.
