Sirius Added More Subscribers in Q2, But XM Still Leads

There are now more than 11.5 million satellite radio subscribers in the United States.
XM Satellite Radio added about 398,000 during the second quarter of this year, for a total of more than 6.89 million subscribers. But its numbers fell short of expectations; President/CEO Hugh Panero cited limited product availability and overall softness in the retail channel.
XM had to delay shipments of its portable MP3 players such as the Pioneer Inno, Samsung Helix and AGT Sportscaster due to FCC concerns about excessive emissions. Manufacturers placed ferrite clips on the antenna wires of the Inno and Helix and those have resumed shipping to stores.
Sirius Satellite Radio, meanwhile, gained some ground on XM, adding about 600,000 subscribers, for a total of 4.68 million.
